A slice of trans history at 848 Community Space

By Keith Hennessy, with additional writing from Michael Whitson

Prompt: At the Legacy talk honoring Jess Curtis (hosted by Gravity, May 19, 2026, at The Red Poppy, in San Francisco), 848 Community Space co-founder Michael Med-O Whitson described the amazing gallery opening of transmale photographer Loren Cameron’s legendary show “Our Visions, Our Voices” (1994). Several people came up to me after the talk and wanted to know more, encouraging me to write about it. There is stuff online (see the links provided) and I was recently approached by folks making a documentary about Loren’s work, but for now, here’s the story with a little more detail.
